ARTISTS / Mifliez, Ferdinand (MISTI)

French 1865-1923
Ferdinand Mifliez was known by the pseudonym Misti. He was born and raised in Paris. Misti was first trained as an industrial designer, and was influenced to create posters while working at the printing house of Chaix. He made his first poster in 1893 and later became one of the busiest posterists of his time, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Jules Cheret. Misti created many posters for Paris's major department stores and to advertise modes of transportation such as bicycles and automobiles. Misti was famous for his direct, explicit style and bold use of line and color; all innovations that continue to influence artists of today.
